Weekend? What weekend?

TV: I Reject Your Reality
It's Monday! Don't forget to read PostSecret!

Harry ate my weekend. Damn him and his sexy new persona. At least I got to squeeze in a Sunday excursion with The Fabulous Nancy (see my previous entry).

Saturday was almost totally taken up with HP. I'd been up all night reading and caught a few quick naps in between marathon online sessions during which I posted to LJ, chatted on YM and generally talked people down from the treetops.

I'm not sure I'll be posting any more canon-related thoughts and/or analyses. I've never been much for analyzing canon. I may, in a week or so, post a long essay about exactly how and why Hermione was not mischaracterized or OOC in HBP. This is my current pet peeve. I'm sure it'll pass, though.

Anyway...moving right along.

I did get to watch both Six Feet Under and Queer as Folk last night (I don't often post about either but I am a loyal viewer of both). I'm actually finding SFU pretty boring this season. Yawn. I'm so sick of Brenda searching for dysfunction and when she doesn't find it, of her creating some. I'm sick of Rico's marital problems. I'm sick of David and Keith's parental angst (although Durrell's school show was adorable, and his pleasure that they came was great). At the moment the only thing I really find interesting is Claire's journey into corporate America. Yeah, baby. It is great that in the last two weeks they've shown off the vocal talents of both Lauren Ambrose and Michael C. Hall (who's a longtime Broadway vet...he played Billy Flynn for awhile, IIRC).

Now, QaF, on the other hand...Holy cow, that was unexpected last night. I cannot believe they actually let Brian tell Justin the he loved him. And across the world a million Brian/Justin shippers went into hormonal overload. Michael will be fine...but I only say that because I think something's wrong with Emmett. I think he was hurt in a way that he either doesn't realize or doesn't want to admit. I think Michael will pull through but Emmett will suddenly drop dead with an injury that no one knew he had. And Deb, I think this did happen for a reason...in the usual oversimplified QaF way, the bombing will serve to defeat Prop 14 in some way by making the anti-gay people so unpalatably horrible that no one will vote for it. My prediction, folks. You heard it here first.

Man, I'm tired. I slept quite late on Sunday to get over the fact that I hadn't slept at all on Friday and only in brief chunks on Saturday, so I was up kind of late...and then when I was about to fall asleep, received a phone call from the illustrious Cassandra Claire (who says hello and who loves the book, btw) because she thought I'd just called HER when in fact I'd called her on FRIDAY. Apparently her phone was storing my number for surprise delivery at a later time. WTF?

So now I'm going to attempt to resume my normal life. I have a bit of post-book letdown. It's helped along by the fact that we're getting lots of good GoF tidbits. And I've uncovered something about my own fanfic that I didn't even know and it's spurring me along on chapter 13 of HWTF.

Honestly, although I was a little disappointed with the R/Hr, my biggest pet peeve in terms of mischaracterization was probably... well, one of them anyway was Tonks. Because, hey, I HEART TONKS. But I need to think about the whole thing a little more.

I agree with the whole "Love'll make ya do crazy things," but Tonks was sooo sad. I just couldn't stand it. (But that she was this upset about Lupin was sweet!) hee!

And I was actually about to go and post on Cassie's lj about how JKR stole her idea (Horcrux=Epicyclical Charm) and how HBP has now turned into the "Ambiguously Gay Canon."

Lori - Thank you for being the ONLY person on my Flist that enjoyed the effin' book. If it weren't for your posts, I'd think I went insane and lost all reason.

I see where people are upset about Hermione, but if I'm being honest with myself, her behavior in HBP is very normal for her age. Yes, even after her attitude in OOTP.

I look forward to your essay.

Wow, you must have an odd flist. I spend hours on friendsfriends over the weekend and I saw about 95% positives.

My flist is not very large. I have about 8 HP people on it and they are all either totally livid and want the book to burn in hell, or can't get over the Hermione characterization thing. It was making me hate the book before I even finished it.

Then, chapter 23 happened. All is good.

Hey, I liked the book. :p

I'm already rereading parts of it.

You SORT OF liked it! :-P

No, you were one of the most positive, next to Lori.

There were some that were REALLY angry about it, though. lol

I'd love to hear your thoughts on Hermione because I'm one of those who do think she was out of character, at least as far as post-OotP Hermione should have been.

Of course, I think my knee-jerk reaction to Hermione is all rooted in bias because I've always related to her the best, and I could not relate to her at ALL in this book. And I don't like the idea that she's suddenly turned into a stereotypical "this is how teenager's act at this age." I mean, I'm Hermione's age (or was a couple of months ago) and I'd like to think I have more self-respect than to lose all rationality because of a boy.

Then again, I have to look at it in terms of how *Hermione* feels and not how *I* feel. I guess I'm just saying... yeah, I'd like to hear your thoughts, especially since you're a writer I admire so.

It all goes back to the line, "Love makes you do crazy things." -- Even the most accomplished, respected, and self-respecting people can be absolute flibtippets when it comes to love.

Count me in as intrigued on any justification for the abrupt change - regression! - in Hermione's character. I'll be looking forward to seeing it if you sucumb to this pet peeve and write the essay.
